Loving-Kindness and Mediation

Hello,

The exercises throughout this course were all great, but the two that stuck out to me was the loving-kindness exercise and mediation. The loving-kindness exercise has really help me to be gentle with myself and assert kindness on others too. There was a time in the beginning of this course I was in a very emotional state with my family members, being pregnant, and having issues with my boyfriend; which the loving kindness exercise made me take a step back and think what I could do differently to help the situation, then I though working on becoming a better person would help me be willing to be opening to think about their feelings than being selfish. The mediation to me went with all the exercise, but that’s the fun part of  incorporating mediation more in my life by getting acquaint with it every unit throughout this course. The part I love most about mediation is it require you to find a quiet place where you can connect without interruption then close your eyes, because it is like closing your thoughts out from the world at that moment to channel your inner self and suppress every emotion that is clashing together and sort it out to bring positivity in the mist of it. I’m so glad I got introduce to these exercise that I can go back to anytime, when I’m having a mental breakdown and it can just pick me up and clear my mind so it will not affect my happiness, health, or path to complete wholeness. This made me had a revelation just now as I was thinking how these exercises have made me a better person, such as when I reach that level of integral health to happiness, health, and wholeness; how will that feeling be for me to feel like I’m complete or becoming one with myself.

  1. Sorry to hear about you going through rough times; hopefully you have gotten to a better place. Meditation did exactly what you said, made you find a quiet place where you can connect without interruption then closing your eyes is like closing your thoughts. Good post and good luck.

  2. Hi Sonya,
You chose the exact same ones I chose as far as being the most beneficial to me. I am also sorry to hear about your troubles and life encounters you are going through but meditation and the loving kindness practices will help a lot. I recently had to use these practices as my life is full of funny family members and stressful situations. I will you luck with your future endeavors.
    I enjoyed reading your post!

  3. Hi Sonya,

I always enjoy reading your blogs; they are always so insightful and meaningful! You apply what we have learned in a very dynamic way that provides me with many different outlooks and perspectives. I also, really enjoyed the Loving-kindness exercise; this one, to me, was the most beneficial because it was one where I saw a change in myself, but also how I looked at other people and how I approached other relationships. It has provided me with a kinder spirit and I truly believe that it has already enhanced my heart health, because previously, I had been fostering negative feelings towards certain individuals because they had hurt me in the past, but what I didn't realize was that I was only hurting myself.

  4. I’m sorry to hear about your current situations, and trust me, if you just keep the faith, thing will work out for the good. Congrat's on the new baby, this will bring you so much joy and happiness to you both. If these exercises has work for you, girl..keep up the good work. Yes, you are correct you have to learn to love, and accept who you are. Sometimes it is very difficult for us to put ourselves first, but this too is very important, although I am still trying my best to this more often than I do. Just keep your head up and stay strong and pray and everything else will fall into place. Like the saying goes “pray about everything and worry about nothing”. God Bless you and your family!

  5. Hello,
Good post, I think you are right about how the meditation helps clear your mind and shut everything out. It is nice to focus on nothing but your breathing and just relax.

  6. Loving-Kindness was one of the most difficult practices for me and I do not really know why. I have an uncontrollable need to make everyone happy, but looking at the progression of others, I see that it is a feeling toward yourself as well. Maybe that is where I lacked fully getting the experience out of the practice. I look forward to working harder at it. I like that it offers the possibility to identify the outter conflict of life that provide the negativity that we are trying to avoid in our life. Thanks for that aspects.
